A Chance To Be A Leader

One thing I like about Bukit Panjang Primary is that they give all the kids a chance to develop themselves and to find out their true potential.

A particular programme I like that they have is "Be A Leader" programme. Every P2 kid gets a chance to be a prefect for 2 weeks. This is their chance to show whether they have what it takes to be a leader and to showcase their skills in dealing with their peers and the teachers.

Kyle was super happy to be a prefect for 2 weeks. In fact, I found him to be very proud of his title and his behaviour was actually much better for those 2 weeks!

That's him looking all so smart and handsome :)

I do hope that he really gets selected when he goes to Primary 3. It will really boost his confidence level (not that it needed any boosting), but it will certainly mould him into a better person.

Mother's Day 2013

Being a mom changed my outlook on life and has made me a better person.

Before I had my kids, I was carefree and mostly only thought about myself (yes, I admit I was selfish, self-centered, loved to be pampered..I don't know how my parents and husband put up with me).

But when I became a mom, all my energy and love and basically everything good poured into my children. I never felt like that towards anyone in my life.

And the best thing is that I never expect anything in return. And I began to truly treasure my mom, my grandmother and all the moms in the world. Our love for our kids are just unconditional.

Believe me when I say we moms are willing to die for our kids any time.

My kids are now in primary school. I cannot imagine a day without them. They bring out the best and yes the worst  in me as well. They make me laugh and cry and their little minds make me want to go into their world of imagination and wonder.

I may teach them their school subjects as well as values and manners, but I feel they are teachers in their own way too. They have taught me in return as well. They have taught me that I need to slow down and enjoy life, and enjoy what I have around me. Breath. Bless these kids.

And so on this day where all mothers are appreciated around the world, I would like to say that it is a 2-way thing, and we mothers are who we are because of our children.

Happy Mothers' Day to all the awesome moms :)

1st PTM for 2013

Ok wow so fast and it's time to meet the kids' teachers. Let's recap what they said about Kyle & Kyra :)

Kyle first! Let's begin with the good comments, shall we?
1. Extremely proficient in English reading. Yes, this is true, he can really decipher bombastic words such as paleontologist! I don't even know whether I spelled that correctly haha!
2. Progressing very well in class.
3. Very active in class discussions.
4. Sociable and no problems interacting with peers and teachers
5. Able to present well in front of class (he used to be so shy when it came to Show and Tell when he was in P1)
6. Current PE monitor

To improve:
1. Less talking in class (haha!)
2. To concentrate and keep focus in class (haha!)
3. To give others a chance in contributing to group discussions (omggg)
4. Needs to improve on Malay language (still speaks like an ang moh learning Malay!!)

Ok let's switch to Kyra! It's her first PTM! Good comments first:
1. Attentive and pleasant girl
2. Progressing well esp in Mathematics (all those drilling by me paid off)
3. No disciplinary issues
4. Current Library monitor

To improve:
1. Very shy! Needs to talk more and contribute more in class (I am not surprised..I was just like her at her age)
2. Needs to improve on Eng reading - at the moment, a bit hesitant while reading
3. Build up confidence skills
4. Same as Kyle - to improve on Malay!

Both of them are enjoying school and have never complained or refused to go to school. Alhamdulilllah. After all, school is not about just academic, but also for time to enjoy sports and arts and making friends.

I am very proud of both of them. Even though Kyra is starting out to be a little shy, from what I observe, she has many friends and has fun in school.

Hopefully as time passes, her confidence will build up more :)

Ride Safe & Happy

When I think about the 2 boys who were killed by a lorry while riding their bicycles, I feel so sad for them and wonder whether it could have been prevented.

Whenever we take out kids out to the nearby park on their bicycles, we make sure that the kids get down from their bikes at the traffic light. We remind them to stay alert, look and make sure that the cars actually stop before they cross the road.

We do this because I get scared seeing them cycle at the traffic light and I often wonder what if the cars did not see them as they are kids and therefore are smaller.

My kids of course would grumble and complain esp Kyle who would insist that he can look around and stay alert while cycling. But my heart says no, so sorry kids, you still need to get off your bikes and push it across the road.

Kyra sometimes too lazy to ride so she will hitch with Daddy, who btw, loves to speed and Kyra enjoys the thrill. Kyle is super seasoned with his two-wheeler. I am so proud of him because it was just last year that he was having trouble transitioning from a 4-wheeler to a 2-wheeler and he was complaining because he was falling down a lot. Now, he is so agile and fast and can even turn at sharp corners. I myself only learn to cycle at the grand old age of 12!

We always cycle to the nearby Petir Park. It has a big open space for kids to run around, and besides cycling, we can hang out at the playground, the fitness corners as well as have a game of badminton or soccer.

How's that for healthy living?
