Since Kyle has started P1, we decided that he can start to practice fasting. We suggested to him that he starts with half a day and we how that goes before we proceed further.
My son was quite enthusiastic about the whole thing, and was even telling us to wake him up for sahur. He was very excited and was looking forward to it.
However, each morning at 5am, whenever we try waking him up, it was hopeless! He refused to wake up muttering that he was sleepy! Haha! So much for wanting to experience sahur.
Despite not being able to wake up, he still wanted to fast for half a day, and he manages this quite easily as he is usually quite preoccupied with his toys, books and TV in the mornings to care about eating.
He will 'tahan' till about 2pm, where he will come over to me and say, "Mama, cannot take it already, so hungry!"
On schooldays, he will have his lunch 1st before leaving for school. This is because my boy is shy to eat in school, mainly because he know it's fasting month and there are many Malay kids and teachers who are always around and will "disturb" other kids who eat in front of everyone. Got ego, this boy!
Anyway, it's a great practice and exposure to fasting and hopefully as he grows older, he can adapt better and perform his fast just like a good Muslim boy. Insyallah.
