Me and hubby make it a point to cultivate the interest of reading in our kids. It's not only to improve your general knowledge but also good for them to practise recognising words, preparing them for primary school and beyond. It will also cultivate a love for books, which I am extremely in love with :)
Since early this year, we have this practise of going to the library about once a week or once in 2 weeks and borrowing a few books for them. We will read as a family, usually before bedtime. Kyle is already more proficient in reading, thus at times, he will read the book aloud to his sister and us, instead of just me or hubby reading to them.
They love this practise and would usually pester us to read to them, especially Kyra. She likes the dramatic reading I usually do, hehe.

Nowadays we have even taken a step further. We made the kids, more of Kyle actually, to do a book review. We ask him to identify the difficult words he is unsure of and we go through with him the spelling as well as the meaning. We also ask him to draw and colour the part of the book he likes best and sometimes, we also have spelling test for words found in the book.
It's great fun reading as a family!
