Kyle at 3 Years 10 Months

I have always believed that a child who is born in the earlier part of the year tends to be a more independant and mature child.

Which is very true for Kyle, who is born on the 26th of January. Somehow, my son likes to lead, take charge and does anything independantly. For example, whenever he plays with his sister and cousin, he will be the one inventing the games and giving out instructions. He does not like to be told what to do and loves the attention when others focus on him.

He learns fast. At his young age, he already knows how to navigate and click the mouse to use the computer. I told hubby that he will probably start blogging in primary school! He knows most of the brands of his favourite cars and the tunes/lyrics of his favourite songs. I love it when he dances, his gyrating moves beats Tom Jones hands down! He is very good at fixing things, and thus he loves Lego blocks, puzzles and even those do-it-yourself miniature models of vehicles.

I love it when he acts all big and brotherly towards his sister. Whenever she cries, he would comfort her and ask her why she is crying and then bring her to me. He would be very protective whenever he sees Rae bullying her and would intervene in such cases.

He is also such an expressive boy. There is not a day that goes by without him saying,"I love you very much, Mama!" He also says things like,"Ahh...this is my favourite song/show/book!" or "You are so special to me!". Whenever he feels that my hubby is bullying me, he would tell his father off,"Why you disturb Mama?". There was one time when his father tripped while wearing his shoes, and my boy said to him,"See, I told you to be careful, right?" Me and my mummy could not stop sniggering.

Ahh...the things he says! He sounds so grown-up, I tell you! His articulation and enunciation is really amazing, I cannot believe that he is not even yet 4 years old. He answers me in full sentences and most times with a lot of conviction and maturity in his tone. His vocabulary is vast and he talks in English most of the time. I am so happy that he loves school. He loves his favourite Teacher Ruz and he rattles off the names of his playgroup friends with ease..although most I hear are girls' names, such as Claire, Felicia and Celeste.

He is already off the diaper during the day, but I still slip on his pull-ups in the middle of the night, as there are still 'minor' leakage cases. But most of the time, his pull-ups are still dry in the morning, which is such a good sign. I will probably stop him from diapers totally when he turns 4 next Jan.

Being a growing boy, he has a huge appetite. He can finish 2 plates of rice at one go! He loves meat and fish (especially sardines) and also soups. Not surprisingly, he hates vegetables, but loves the coleslow from KFC! The funny thing is dat he finishes his vegetables in school. Hmm..I guess it could be due to peer pressure? Oh and I do not feed him, he knows how to eat himself, either by hand/utensils.

He remembers things very well. I just have to teach him once or twice and he can already remember it. He makes an effort to memorise a new word I teach him and he can repeat it the following day. You will be surprise hearing him say words such as, space shuttle, astronaut, satellite, bulldozer etc. He has memorised all the words in the books I bought for him!

One thing that we are trying to teach him not to do, is to not shout when speaking. He tends to be very loud (very attention-seeking) and loves to raise his voice, even when talking to a person who is just next to him. Of course even after reminders, he still forgets and talks very loudly. However I do get amused by the reaction people around him gets. We went to the zoo last week and he was saying out the names of each animal he sees so loudly that many of the visitors heard his voice. It became a learning journey for them as well!
