Kyra's 2nd Birthday Celebration

We had a mini birthday makan for Kyra recently. I actually wanted to have a bbq at a chalet but due to my surgery, that idea was scrapped.

After the surgery, I was to rest at home for 2 weeks and thus we decide to just have a small celebration with close family and friends. It was also a double celebration as it is still Hari Raya.

It really made me happy to catch up with old friends :) Thanks to all who found the time to come.

Kyra's 1st Trip to the Hair Saloon

Kyra has never had her hair cut or shaved before except for the occasional trimming of her fringe, done by yours truly, when it gets into her eyes.

Her hair has been growing longer and her curls are getting more unruly and messy. Just see the picture and you will know what I mean.

I actually did not want to cut her hair as I want to keep it long, but since it is not growing nicely, I decided to take her to a hair saloon.

I was initially not sure of how her reaction will be as it is her 1st time. Her brother hates going to the barber and would cry each time we take him there. Surprisingly, my girl was very calm and composed and acted all grown-up while having her hair cut.

Look at her! I am so proud of her :)

Her hair looks so much neater now.
Hopefully now her curls will grow out more evenly and be even more nicer than before.

Happy Birthday Kyra!

My baby girl turns 2 today!

She is very clingy to me, so we always joked its because when I was 5 months pregnant with her, we took her to Brisbane and over there, we took pictures with a koala bear, and thus that is why she clings on to me just like a koala bear!

This is a video of her, just minutes after she was out of my tummy :)

She is so adorable and pretty to me, and I just love her gentleness and how demure she can be.

Some pics of her taken over the past 2 years:

She is so vain at her age!! I guess she always watches me making up my face in the morning, so sometimes she would also take my make-up and apply and on her face! Whenever she is wearing something nice like a new dress or shoes, she would go around the house looking for people to admire her and then she would point to herself and say 'pretty!".

Whenever her brother bullies her, she would come and complain to me and say,"Mama! Abang...notii...".

Sometimes I worry because she is petite for her age and I wonder whether she is eating enough and getting enough nutrients. She is definitely a fussy eater and chooses what she eats. I am considered lucky if I can get her to eat 5 scoops of rice each feeding time.

But I am grateful that she is indeed healthy and bright. I love bringing her out shopping or go to a friend's house because she is fuss-free and easy to bring out. No tantrums or crankiness :)

I am blessed to have her and I hope that she will grow up to be a happy and healthy girl who respects all around her.

Happy Birthday Adik!

Operation Cyst

Ok I have been getting queries on what has happened to me following my Facebook comments on my 'op'.

So here is the full story, totally uncensored:
I have been having severe menses cramps and excessive bleeding each time my menses came since about 4-5 months ago. I would cuddle up like a baby at home whenever I am having my period and change my pads every 2 hours, which would already be overflowing already.

Worried, I approached my specialist at Tan Tock Seng, asking whether my lupus had anything to do with this. She said that it was impossible and referred me to KK Women & Children's Hospital for a thorough check-up.

After the scan at KK, my gynae confirmed that there was a cyst measuring about 5cm near my right ovary. However, she told me that there was no cause for concern yet and it might disappear. So she arranged for another follow-up scan two months later, which was on 7th Oct 08. And this time it was confirmed that the cyst was getting bigger, almost 7 cm. It is called a blood cyst.

It develops when the some of the blood from my period does not discharge totally out of my body and spills back into my uterus/womb. It then coagulates into a ball when it contains the toxic blood and as it gets bigger, there is a danger of rupture and thus damage to the other organs. Thus my gynae ordered an immediate surgery to remove it.

I was of course very shocked to hear all this and refused to go for the operation! Only after my gynae's persistence and convincing me that it would be fatal, I reluctantly agreed to go through the operation.

Lucky for me, my manager at work was quite understanding and urged me to go for my operation as soon as possible. I was so embarrassed because I had just started work and now I had to leave and take a few weeks MC. Great timing, huh?

So anyway, the op was scheduled on Mon morning 13 Oct, but I had to be admitted one day before for observation. I was given medication to clear my bowels (they inserted a laxative liquid inside my anus!!) and had to fast from midnight onwards.

My operation was scheduled at 10.45am and an hour before that, I was already wearing the operation gown. I was put onto the trolley bed and a drip was inserted into my vein on my left hand. The nurses then pushed me into the operation theatre. This was where I felt so nervous that I wanted to back out!

The surgeon must have noticed my fidgeting and restlessness that she ordered the nurse to give me the oxygen mask. Little that I know that was the sleeping gas, and within a few breaths, I felt my eyes so heavy...and when I woke up, I was already back at my ward!

Just some general information on the keyhole surgery that was performed on me:

The surgical procedure is carried out through a very small incision in the abdomen. The advantage of this operation is that no large cut has to be made in the abdomen which means that there is less post-operative pain. There is a much better cosmetic result as there is no large scar left after the operation.

The surgery is carried out under the magnification of a telescope called a laparoscope, which is inserted through the umbilicus (belly button). The laparoscope is attached to a miniature colour video camera, which in turn transmits the picture to a video monitor screen. The operation is performed under magnification; thus the surgery is more precise and causes less scarring and adhesion formation.
.
Two small punctures (5 – 12 mm size) lower down in the abdominal wall is necessary to insert long narrow instruments which are used to perform the surgery. The Surgeon watches the operation on the video screen while he is undertaking the operation.

So that's how my abdomen looks like at the moment.

My right ovary was also removed because they would be a recurrence of the cyst if not taken out. However, I am still able to conceive if I wish to with just my left ovary.

I can't carry any heavy stuff yet...so I am feeling quite low actually because I am not able to carry my kids when they cry for me.

Just pray that I will recover fast, ok?

A New Ride

Rae will be starting school soon in November, at the same childcare centre as Kyle's.

It has been a headache thinking of how my Daddy has to send the 2 kids to school. Normally my dad sends Kyle using his motorbike. But he definitely cannot put 2 kids on his motorbike when Rae starts schooling!!

My daddy is not getting younger and walking (the school is about 15-20mins away from home by foot) takes a toll on him. It leaves him breathless and nauseous.

Thus we decided to pool our money and buy a motorized bicycle for him! It is specially customized to hold 2 kids, one in front and one at the back.

Testing out the S$1000 bicycle

It is super fast, just like a normal motorbike! They can reach school in less than 10 mins. The kids are so excited too.

Not only we are using it to send the kids the school, Hubby has been using it to visit his parents a few blocks away and also to buy groceries at the nearby mini-mart. Totally worth the $$!

Sick on Hari Raya - What Bad Timing!

This year Hari Raya is sort of subdued. Why, you asked? Well, my babies are sick!

Yup on the 1st day of raya, Kyra was down with high fever. We only managed to visit one house (my in-laws) before rushing home. Even after we gave her paracetamol and nurofen, she still had persistent fever, cough and flu. It was really hard for me because I had just started work and could not take leave to take care of her. My mind was only at home while at work. I was also very tired due to her crankiness and sleepless nights while she was having fever.

We took her to KK Children's Emergency Clinic on Friday night as her fever still was very high, up till 39.8degrees. Imagine my shock when the doctor diagnosed her as having pneumonia and bronchitis! She was put on the nebulizar drip and we even had to purchase the asthmatic pump for her. She was nearly warded if not for her fever which finally did subside.

Kyle is also down with cough and has slight fever. Well, it looks like I won't be celebrating Hari Raya as much as last year, I guess. At least not until the two of them get better.

We did, however, get to wear our outfits and took some pictures when we visited my in-laws.

Selamat Hari Raya!

So we won't be going visiting much this year. But that does not mean we are closing our doors to visitors!

So come by our house lah!
