Kids Say The Darnest Things!

Kyle's vocabulary has increased by leaps and bounds since he started school and most of the time, we are both amazed and amused at what he can say.

These days for a three year old to be conversing like an adult is a seemingly common sight, as most children attend school at a young age, as young as 18 months. When I was 3, I do not think I was able to converse so well in English and definitely my development is not as advanced as Kyle's.

At his age, he can recite his ABCs, count till 20 (ok, he may miss out some numbers), knows how to identify body parts, shapes, colours, objects, memorise songs, and talk in proper sentences.

These are my favourite few expressions from him:

1) What's wrong with you?? (Haha, that's right, he says that to me when he is not satisfied about something)

2) Are you ok? (He asks me when I look blue)

3) I'm so angry with you! (He says this with his hands on his hips, and a mock angry expression)

3) Go and shower! So smelly! (To his ayah, who likes to grab and kiss him upon returning from work)

4) Adik, why, why? Abang here, ok? (Consoling his little sis when she is crying)

5) Mama scared? Its ok, I love you, I sayang you! (Haha, this is after I screamed upon stumbling on a cockroach)

There are many many others which I like, but I will be writing a thesis if I have to note them all down :) His expressions are so dramatic when he speaks, he knows how to use the right tone of voice and the right form of physical expression. It just amazes me.

One thing that worries me about Kyle is his tendency to be aggressive. Nowadays he tends to kick or push his classmates, and even us. I am not sure where he learns it from, and I am not happy with it. I am the one that disciplines my children, and not Hubby. Thus my 'rotan' will come out whenever he does that, and I really feel the heart-ache when I beat him. I don't wish to spare the rod and spoil the child, yet I wish I do not have to do it. I just hope that this is a passing phase and he will stop doing it soon.

Kyra is starting to say words, she knows how to call her family members Ma, Ayah, Nek, Bang and she points to the right person when I say their name. She is so gentle and demure. And she's just like me, loves to shop for shoes & bags! She likes to play 'masak-masak', dress-up (carries her tiny bag and saunters around the house like a tai-tai). I remember an incident where she followed me once to shop, and she was also happily picking out shoes and trying them on! Haha!

She is also what I would call a 'koala bear' baby. Hangs on to me like a koala bear once I reach home from work and does not want to let go :) and I have no complaints whatsoever. She is still small for her age, but as long as she is healthy, the doctors say that she is fine. When she wants to watch Barney, she will point to the DVD player and shout "NI!" Oh yes, for a small girl, she certainly has a loud voice :)

And whenever she wants something, she will say "Nak!" If we say no and scold her, she will keep quiet and look peepingly at us with a sad face. So cute, I tell you! Compared to her brother who is hyperactive and mischievous, Kyra is an angel. Very well-behaved.

My kids are growing up too fast!

I Will Miss You

Yesterday was the saddest day in my entire working life in office. One of my best buddies is leaving me.

Me & Mae

We have known each other for almost 8 years, all the while sharing an office space, just the two of us. She is my confidante, best friend, girlfriend, and even sister. She is just like family. She knows all my family members and watch my children grow up.

Yes, we can have our differences, and we don't agree with each other at times, but most times we laugh and joke at and with each other.

At Kyle's 2nd Birthday

My room & my life now feels somewhat empty. There are just too many memories.

Us With Radha and Mazian

I wish her all the very best, and may she be happy in her next job. Hope we can remain in touch, because this friendship means the world to me.

Take care, my friend...

Happy Birthday Nenek!

My dearest mum turned 52 yesterday. She loves the nasi ayam penyet at Changi Village so we drove up there to eat. It is really delicious, the sambal is just excellent.

Waiting for the food to arrive

Later we drove to Changi Beach to cut the cake. It was such a thrill for the kids to see the planes taking off and flying over them at such a close distance. They were full of 'oohs' and 'aahs' and were amazed by the sight.

A Star in the Making?

I had a call from Kyle's form teacher, Ms Ruz while I was at work just now. She sounded so serious I thought either Kyle was injured or he injured someone!

Imagine my surprise when she told me that earlier on some photographers from NTUC Co-op had dropped by to take some classroom shots of the teachers and students. And they especially liked the shots of Kyle! So Teacher Ruz needs my consent whether Kyle's pictures can be used for publicity or promotion purposes! Wow...

And to top it off, if we agree, we get a S$50 NTUC Fairprice voucher! Haha, who would not want, right? Hmm...so will my son be a star in future?

Well, you are already a star in our eyes, baby :)

Its my mother's birthday today! Happy birthday dearest Mummy, we love you so much!

Having dinner later, will update soon.

Promotion to Grade E1

I got a surprise email from my boss two days ago asking me to go over his office to collect my promotion letter :) Only two of us, me and my admin manager, got the nod to move a grade up. Selections were quite stringent this time round, I was told, and I was quite lucky that the panel chose me.

It has been 4 years since my last promotion and I am blessed to be recognised for my work done these few years. However, I also feel a bit sad for my other colleagues who have worked tirelessly for the department, and yet have not been pushed up for promotion. They truly deserve the recognition even more than me, I feel. I am just luckier because I have an understanding and good boss who fights for his staff's welfare.

Hubby was very happy and the 1st question he asked me was how much pay raise did I get? The money is not much, I have to admit, but the satisfaction I get from it is quite good :) Hope this would motivate me to work harder and not look around for better opportunities elsewhere, which sadly, is not much, looking from the career ads in the papers nowadays.

I gave a small treat to my colleagues today and we also bid farewell to a fellow colleague who is leaving us to join another department and we celebrated her moving to a higher, and hopefully a better position. Congrats Rebecca!

My darlings are hooked on Barney nowadays. It is a great relief because previously it was hard to find them an activity to do for a long period before they get restless again. However, they will sit down and watch, dance and sing whenever I play the Barney DVD. It keeps them occupied while I do my own work. I usually do not advocate the TV as a tool to keep them occupied, but since Barney is very educational and fun, I can be flexible in this case :)

Concentrating hard on Barney
This is a heartwarming video of the 3 kids (my children and my nephew). In it, I ask them who they love and they all replied the same thing! Watch it!

So cute, right?
